Double spacing in Google Docs improves readability by increasing the space between lines. Here's how to do it on desktop and mobile.
Method 1: Using the Format Menu (Desktop)
- Select Text: Highlight the text you want to double space. To double space the entire document, press

(Mac). - Open Format Menu: Click Format in the top menu bar.
- Line & Paragraph Spacing: Hover over or click Line & Paragraph Spacing.
- Select Double: Click Double from the submenu.
Method 2: Using the Format Menu (Mobile App)
- Open Document & Select Text (Optional): Open the Google Docs app and select the text you want to format. To format the entire document, skip this step.
- Tap Format Icon: Tap the Format icon (looks like an "A" with lines) at the bottom.
- Choose Paragraph: Select the Paragraph tab.
- Adjust Line Spacing: Find Line spacing and tap the up arrow until it shows 2.0.

If you need a customized spacing option, select Custom spacing... in the line spacing dropdown menu. This allows you to modify both the line spacing and the space between paragraphs to suit your preferences.
Custom Spacing Example:
- Line spacing: 2.0
- Before paragraph: 0 pt
- After paragraph: 10 pt This will give you double spacing with an additional 10 points of space after each paragraph, enhancing the overall readability of your document.
